A Festschrift for Dr. Gary Bond

 

Key Presenters:

Bob Drake Robert E. Drake, M.D., Ph.D., is Andrew Thomson Professor of Psychiatry and of Community and Family Medicine, Dartmouth Medical School.  Dr. Drake founded and directs the Dartmouth Psychiatric Research Center (since 1987) and was one of the primary leaders of the National Implementing Evidence-Based Practices Project.  Dr. Drake works actively as a clinician in community mental health centers and has been developing and evaluating innovative community programs for persons with severe mental disorders. He is well known for his work in co-occurring substance use disorder and severe mental illness. Some of his recent work has focused on vocational rehabilitation. His over 200 publications cover diverse aspects of adjustment and quality of life among persons with severe mental disorders and those in their support systems.
Howard Goldman Howard H. Goldman, M.D., Ph.D., is Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. Dr. Goldman received joint M.D. - M.P.H. degrees from Harvard University in 1974 and a Ph.D. in social policy research from the Heller School at Brandeis University in 1978. He is the author or co-author of 275 publications in the professional literature. Dr. Goldman is the editor of Psychiatric Services, a mental health services research and policy journal published monthly by the American Psychiatric Association. He also serves on the editorial boards of several other journals, including the American Journal of Psychiatry and the Journal of Mental Health Policy and Economics. Dr. Goldman served as the Senior Scientific Editor of the Surgeon General's Report on Mental Health from 1997-1999 for which he was awarded the Surgeon General’s Medallion. During 2002 and 2003 Dr.Goldman was a consultant to the President’s New Freedom Commission on Mental Health. In 1996 he was elected to membership in the National Academy of Social Insurance, and in 2002 he was elected to the Institute of Medicine. Dr. Goldman’s expertise is in evaluating mental health services and financing programs and policies. He is the director of the Network on Mental Health Policy Research, funded by the MacArthur Foundation. 
John McGrew John H. McGrew, Ph.D., is a Professor in the IUPUI Psychology Department.  He joined the department in 1989 as Research Associate for Dr. Gary Bond and has worked with him since that time in the area of mental health services research, with a special focus on the implementation of evidence-based mental health program models. Together with Dr. Michelle Salyers he published the first major article on fidelity measurement of Assertive Community Treatment in the Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology.
J Morrisey Joseph P. Morrissey, Ph.D., is Professor of Health Policy & Administration and Psychiatry at the Schools of Public Health and Medicine at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He also serves as Deputy Director for Research of the university’s Cecil G. Sheps Center for Health Services Research. He is interested in the organization, financing, and effectiveness of mental health and substance abuse services. He has contributed to foundation- and federal agency-supported research demonstrations on improving services for persons with severe mental illness. His research contributions extend to the interface of criminal justice and mental health programs. He also serves as director for the UNC-Duke Training Program in Mental Health Services and System Research, a post-doctoral fellowship program funded by the NIMH, now in its 17th year. In 1997, he received the Carl A. Taube award from the American Public Health Association for career contributions to the field of mental health services research.
Kim Mueser Kim T. Mueser, Ph.D., is Professor in the departments of Psychiatry and Community and Family Medicine at Dartmouth Medical School.  He is internationally known as a mental health services researcher, with over 25 years experience.  He has conducted research benefiting consumers with SMI and their families, including topics such as treatment of co-occurring substance use disorders, supported employment, trauma and PTSD, social skills training, somatic health issues, and coping with symptoms.
C Rapp

Charles A. Rapp, Ph.D., is Professor at the School of Social Welfare and Director of the Office of Mental Health Research and Training at the University of Kansas.  He is internationally known for developing the strengths model of case management and for his work on outcomes-based supervision.  He also has been a leader in the National Implementing Evidence-Based Practices Project.

S Resnick Sandra G. Resnick, Ph.D., was Dr. Bond's student at IUPUI from 1995 until she earned her doctorate in Clinical Rehabilitation Psychology in 2001.  Dr. Resnick currently is Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the Yale University School of Medicine and Associate Director of the VA Northeast Program Evaluation Center, where she oversees the national program monitoring of the VA's work therapy programs. She is currently leading the national implementation of evidence-based supported employment in VHA, in which ongoing fidelity assessment is a critical and central component.  She is currently studying methods of training vocational specialists to provide technical assistance and to accurately perform the Supported Employment Fidelity Scale.  She is the author of several widely-cited articles on the empirical definition of recovery and the interface between recovery and positive psychology. Dr. Resnick is currently on the Board of Directors of the United States Psychiatric Rehabilitation Association and is on the Editorial board of the Psychiatric Rehabilitation Journal.
a rollins Angela L. Rollins, Ph.D., is Research Director for the ACT Center of Indiana and Assistant Research Professor for the IUPUI Psychology Department.  Her work primarily focuses on implementation of evidence-based mental health services, including the use of fidelity assessments. She earned her doctorate in Clinical Rehabilitation Psychology in 2002.  Gary Bond was her primary mentor, and she has worked with him for over 12 years in mental health services research, including attention to fidelity measurement of evidence-based mental health models.
M Salyers Michelle P. Salyers, Ph.D., is co-director of the ACT Center and Associate Research Professor, Department of Psychology, IUPUI.  She is also a Research Scientist at the VA HSR&D Center on Implementing Evidence-based Practice, Roudebush VAMC and Regenstrief Institute, Inc.  She earned her doctorate in Clinical Rehabilitation Psychology at IUPUI in 1998, with Gary Bond as her primary mentor.  She has several federally-funded research and implementation projects focusing on evidence-based practices for adults with severe mental illness, and has published several articles related to fidelity.
G Teague Gregory B. Teague, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mental Health Law & Policy at the University of South Florida. He received his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology and Public Practice from Harvard University. His general research area is services for persons with severe mental disorders. His recent research has focused on effectiveness of consumer-operated services, prevention of homelessness, and self-directed care.  He has also worked on several SAMHSA-sponsored efforts in development and integration of performance measurement within behavioral health care, including the MHSIP consumer-oriented report card, standards for outcome measurement systems, and development and promulgation of common performance indicators and measures. His current teaching focuses on evidence-based practice in behavioral healthcare.
T Zipple Anthony Zipple, ScD, is Chief Executive Officer of Thresholds Rehabilitation Industries, with over 25 years of experience as a psychiatric rehabilitation administrator and researcher.  Zipple’s work has included a pioneering work on supported housing and family psychoeducation.
